We are...

a vibrant mixture of adults, of all ages, from many different walks of life, with a shared love of making good-quality music together.

Most of our members are experienced in choral singing, and are quite good sight-readers. We hold no auditions because we want to maintain our policy of openess to all but ask that new members join us on a mutual trial.

Although we work hard at our music, we are also a friendly and sociable group! There are usually one or two get-togethers in the course of a year and the highlight is a barbeque after our last summer concert.

While Newbury Chamber Choir works with leading professional vocal and instrumental soloists, there are sometimes solo opportunities for regular members with appropriate voices. Members contribute to the substantial costs of mounting concerts through a nominal subscription.

We rehearse every Tuesday evening from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the new hall of Thorngrove School, Mount Road, off Pantings Lane, Highclere, Newbury RG20 9PS (where there is ample safe parking). If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch initially with Sarah Bedford for an informal chat. To contact Sarah, call: 01635 253605 or email her.

Musical Director Edward Lambert has conducted many choral and orchestral works, accompanied many singers and instrumentalists, and composed music for a wide variety of performers. He studied at Oxford and the Royal College of Music and went on to work for several opera companies here and abroad; for many years he was on the staff of the Royal Opera House, where he worked with many of the greatest singers and conductors of recent times. As a chorus master and coach he has worked with Dublin Grand Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, Ambrosian Singers, Ballet Rambert, Netherlands Opera, Maggio Musicale in Florence, Philharmonia Chorus, London Symphony Chorus, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. His music has been performed at major festivals, on Radio 3 and accompanying TV programmes. He has written three operas and a large-scale choral work, the Rossetti Requiem, which was given its first performance by the Newbury Chamber Choir in 2010. Brighter than the Sun - which is a miscellany of medieval and modern music - will be performed in December 2011
